Backend engineer. I build the unglamorous parts — the ones that have to still be working on a Tuesday six months from now.
I work on services that run unattended: ingestion pipelines, integrations with systems that have no API worth the name, and the plumbing that turns someone else's data into something a person can act on.
What I care about most is how software behaves when it goes wrong. Silence is the failure mode I design against — a system that has stopped working should say so, not simply stop producing output and let everyone assume there was nothing to report.
